A surfer found floating in the Pacific Ocean in Malibu and pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital was identified Thursday, August 28, by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office as 54-year-old Silverio Rafanan Laconsay of Los Angeles.
The man was found about 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, said Lt. Jennifer Seetoo of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.
Laconsay was found “unconscious and non-breathing,” according to Kyle Daniels of the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Lifeguard Division.
CPR was administered by rescuers, Daniels said.
Large waves generated by then-Hurricane Marie, now a tropical storm, were pounding south-facing beaches the day Laconsay was found.
