The students of Corpus Christi School’s Drama Club recently performed “The Music Man Junior.” The musical tells the story of traveling salesman Harold Hill, who cons the residents of River City, Iowa, in 1912 into buying instruments and uniforms for a kids’ band he says he will organize.
The problem lies in the fact that Hill doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. With a cast of over 40 students, the musical featured beloved songs such as “Til There Was You” (featuring sixth grader Coco Kennedy in the role of Marian), “76 Trombones,” “Trouble” and “Wells Fargo Wagon.”
Directed by Joel Maki and choreographed by Kelly Iannuzzi, the musical was chosen because it has the ability to showcase such a large cast with many featured moments for young actors to shine both individually and collectively.
Students auditioned for parts back in January and worked for three months after school to share their talent with the community. Corpus had a full house for both the Friday and Saturday shows so they decided to add an additional show on Tuesday due to its success.
