Fake mustaches and long wigs adorned the fifth graders of Corpus Christi School as they took a small audience of parents on a Walk Through the American Revolution on Wednesday, March 2.
The small event was put on by the California Weekly Explorer, which specializes in providing history presentations to fourth, fifth and sixth graders.
The students were split into three teams: the Red Coats, the White Tories and the Blue Rebels. Each team represented a different side in the American Revolution and competed for points throughout the two and a half-hour presentation.
The presenter asked the students various questions about the Revolution and asked them to give definitions for various terms, such as The Stamp Act. Each correct answer earned points for their team, all kept track of by a parent scorekeeper in the audience.
Some students also had character cards requiring them to introduce themselves as that person and give a description of who they were complete with a costume and prop.
One student introduced herself as a victim of the Boston Massacre. After throwing a prop snowball at the Red Coats team the presenter shot her with a confetti gun leading her to “die” dramatically on the gym floor.
After a long battle of knowledge, the Red Coats and Blue Rebels emerged as tied victors. Earlier in the day, the fourth grade students were taken through a similar presentation titled a Walk Through California.
