Update, March 12, 2:50 p.m.: Additional schools in the Palisades have announced they will be closing their campuses due to growing concerns surrounding coronavirus: Calvary Christian School and Westside Waldorf School.
Calvary Christian’s campus is closing for at least two weeks after today’s classes, with online content starting Monday, March 16.
“During this period in which our campus is closed, we encourage families to practice social distancing in their own lives,” representatives from the school shared. “Social distancing is widely viewed as an effective behavior and something that everyone should practice at this time.”
Westside Waldorf will be closed starting tomorrow, March 13, with remote learning beginning on Tuesday, March 17, until further notice.
“While we have no reported cases of COVID-19 within our school community, the Leadership Council has reviewed the known facts and Health Department guidelines and have come to the conclusion that it is necessary to be proactive and take this step,” representatives from Westside Waldorf said in an email.
The updated closures follow Village School and St. Matthew’s Parish School, which are both beginning online instruction next week.
Update, 5:30 p.m.: Two Palisades schools have announced they will be closing their campuses due to growing concerns surrounding coronavirus: Village School and St. Matthew’s Parish School.
Village School will remain open Thursday and Friday, with a noon dismissal on Friday. Monday and Tuesday will be professional development days, and online learning will begin Wednesday, March 18 for all students.
“We realize that this is a large disruption and are hopeful that life will resume some semblance of normalcy as soon as possible,” representatives from the school shared in an email. “Lastly, we want to assure you that, thus far, there has been no sign of the virus at Village. No one in our community has shown symptoms or been tested. However, we are committed to doing our part to help contain the transmission of the virus and we appreciate your understanding and support.”
St. Matthew’s has suspended in-person instruction and will launch remote learning for students beginning Tuesday, March 17, “due to the uncertainty surrounding the spread of coronavirus, and out of an abundance of caution.”
Village School is hoping to reopen following spring break, “but will make that decision keeping in mind the safety of both our school as well as the larger community,” and St. Matthew’s will continue to monitor the situation before reopening the campus.
Schools with Palisadian students will be closing their campuses: Harvard Westlake School and Windward School.
“Harvard-Westlake has made the decision to close its campuses after today’s classes and after-school activities, reopening online only next Monday, March 16,” the school shared in a statement. The school will remain online only through Friday, March 27.
The Windward campus is also closed to students, with virtual school beginning on Friday.
John Thomas Dye School will close Thursday, March 12, and Friday, March 13, to prepare the campus for an online system should it close, but is slated to reopen Monday.
Information about additional schools will be sent as it becomes available.
