Pacific Palisades native Chris Conte participated in the first day of training camp with his new football team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, on Saturday at the University of South Florida.
Conte was a free agent and signed a one-year deal witth Tampa Bay in March. The free safety was selected by Chicago in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft and played in 57 games for the Bears, accumulating over 230 tackles, 21 pass deflections and nine interceptions.
Conte grew up in the El Medio Bluffs and attended Corpus Christi School before enjoying a stellar prep career at Loyola High. He played cornerback and safety at Cal, where he earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors and made 72 tackles in 12 starts as a senior.
