One week has been added to the regular season for basketball and soccer to allow for league makeup games; start of playoffs delayed until Feb. 14.
On Tuesday, the CIF Los Angeles City Section issued the following statement about the 2021-22 winter sports calendar:
In an effort to provide our member schools more time to re-schedule postponed league contests or the possibility of having to re-schedule future contests due to COVID-19 and the recent pause in LAUSD athletics, the CIF Los Angeles City Section Executive Committee decided today to extend the regular season and delay the beginning of the playoffs for one additional week. This pertains to specifically basketball and soccer. Girls water polo and wrestling will be addressed in the near future.
Traditionally, basketball and soccer playoffs are played over a three-week period. Now the playoffs will be conducted over two weeks beginning the week of February 14. Playoff seeding for both sports will be held the weekend of February 12 and 13. Championships will remain scheduled for Feb.25 and 26, 2022.
Dates for the basketball and soccer playoffs will be shared at another time.
In a separate matter, the Executive Committee made the decision to waive the 2022 dead period for all sports. The CIF LA City Section is the governing body of high school sports for 160 schools in the greater Los Angeles area, including Palisades High.
An email was sent to out to LAUSD parents on Jan. 9 informing them that all athletic competitions for the week of Jan. 10-14 were being postponed due to surges in COVID-19 cases resulting from the Omicron variant. Student athletes , drill and band members were allowed to practice outdoors only and had to wear masks in compliance with health and safety protocols of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
