Cindy Leuty Jones, a graduate of Kansas University Medical Center in respiratory therapy and biology and former model and actress who later transitioned into the world of commercial real estate, is a true jack of all trades.
And now, as of Wednesday, July 1, Jones released her first book, “DOABLE: Little Decisions That Will Transform Your Life.”
The self-help book uses “witty” and “inspiring” stories, combined with “decades of cutting-edge research” to “explore what motivates all human behavior, the pitfalls that will trip you up, and the elements crucial to your success and happiness,” according to Jones’ website. “DOABLE” is designed to offer bite-sized pieces of advice to help transform a person’s life.
Her ties to the Palisades run deep: Jones, who lived on the corner of Sunset and Napoli for 20 years, was a longtime member of the Pacific Palisades Woman’s Club and instrumental in the merging of the Palisades Jr. Women’s Club and Palisades Woman’s Club.
“The book grew out of presentations that I’ve done for the Palisades Rotary Club, the Palisades Woman’s Club, many of the other women’s clubs throughout Los Angeles and for corporations,” Jones said to the Palisadian-Post. “Everyone kept asking me, ‘Are you writing a book?’ … I finally sat down about a year ago and actually wrote it.”
Jones said the book follows Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, from the basic level, which addresses food, water and sleep, to what goes on inside and outside of the body, and everything that goes on in our consciousness.
“Most self-help, inspiration books are about one thing, like habits or esteem or about finding love,” she said to the Post. “Where this book is about every aspect of your day, starting with the first thing you should do when you wake up in the morning to the two questions you need to ask yourself if you’re going to marry someone.”
She said the information is complex, but is presented in digestible chunks. “DOABLE” offers Jones’ thoughts in order, all backed up by research studies, as well as a compilation of the advice she had given her nieces and nephews through adulthood.
“It has a lot of information that is applicable to your daily life,” Jones said.
Before penning the book, Jones, who attempted retirement, looked for other ways to contribute her time, eventually founding the Jack and Cindy Jones Youth Center in Santa Monica with her husband. The center houses the Boys and Girls Club of Mar Vista Gardens—and all proceeds from her book will go toward it.
In addition to founding the youth center, Jones organized presentations on food, self-improvement and nutrition—some of which she presented in Pacific Palisades.
“My heart belongs in the Palisades, it’s an incredible community,” Jones said. “I’m still a Palisades resident during the day.”
“DOABLE” is available to purchase on Amazon or Jones’ website at gocindyjones.com.
