In a back and forth contest that was everything a championship game should be, the Celtics edged the Nets, 53-51, to win the Co-Ed Major Division spring basketball title Saturday in the big gym at the Palisades Recreation Center.
Aidan Petoyan led the way with 10 points and drove the lane for a three-point play with under 30 seconds left to lift Coach Lloyd Rogers and the Celtics (10-2). Julien Harnoncourt, Declan McCormick, Owen Huang, Jaden Fishman, Andrew Lawrence, Diego Fishman, Kye Davis, Mathias Mazzocco and Logan Mirzadeh, rounded out the roster.
In the Girls Minor Division final, the Bulldogs rallied late to tie it before the Tigers took a 21-19 in the final minute on a shot by Jenna Ringer and held on to win. Coached by Jessica Mickey, the Tigers (9-4) consisted of Ringer, Harper Cwiertnia, Bailey Gair, Mechal Green, Margaret Himes, Annabel Kadenacy, Siena Massey, Gianna Mickey, Devyn Sherman and Kara Wolf.
Connor Petoyan scored 32 points to lead the Warriors past the Clippers, 45-32, in the Co-Ed Minor Division final. Sean Findley led the Clippers with 28. The Warriors (9-3) were coached by Kenneth Galanis and their roster included Clifford Roberts, Ryan Chang, Will Petoyan, Elan Tofer, Patrick Ashby, Jack Fishman, Jake Laing and Theo Spiridellis.
Coach Peter Kennedy guided the Wolverines (10-2) to a 16-10 victory over the Hawkeyes in the Girls Bantam Division final.
The team was comprised of Chloe Kennedy, Lily Kennedy, Skyla Burmeister, Ella Montgomery, Maylia Harinck, Mila Humby, Peyton Juha, Stella Saliman, Willa Yarosh and Charlie Haas.
The Yellowjackets (12-0) beat the Fighting Irish 43-32 to win the Co-Ed Bantam Division, led by Tomas Tehrani, Sam Swartz, Marley Woodford-Barlow, Ilan Shapiro, Jackson Thomas, Owen Lipsky, Knox Chidsey, Skylar Jennings, Sophie Hoffman and Olivia Broumand.
