The latest tenant to open its doors in Palisades Village is Byredo—which welcomed its first customers on Friday, August 12.
“Byredo is a modern European luxury house founded in 2006 with an ambition to translate memories and emotions into products and experiences,” according to the Palisades Village website. “Manifested through a variety of objects, the Byredo universe began with fragrance and has since evolved into a full range of makeup, home, leather goods and accessories.”
Byredo opened on Palisades Village Lane in the space next to Reformation, which has been vacant since the development first opened in September 2018.
Based in Stockholm, Byredo was founded by former fine artist Ben Gorham. The brand is described as an “avant-garde collection” that “offers an array of beguiling notes, from fresh floral and warm musk to spicy sandalwood and smoky wood of the highest quality” on its website.
The Palisades Village iteration marks the third stand-alone store in the Los Angeles area, following locations in Silverlake and Melrose Avenue.
“I really like how each area in LA has its own distinctive environment and character,” Gorham shared in a statement, “and I’m interested to showcase different facets of the Byredo universe as we enter into dialogue with various parts of the city.”
According to the statement, the Byredo storefront will explore “the convergence of the brand’s signature minimalist aesthetic with the warm Modernism of California.”
“From a façade of white brick, the light-filled space connects to the open air through an inviting glass front,” the statement continued. “Inside, aluminum framed vitrines with maple bases are stacked on a bent metal sheet table next to polished cabinets and counter units with frosted colored shelving, reflecting the iconic interplay between materials that defines Byredo’s vision of contemporary luxury.”
The store will carry Byredo’s full range of perfume, home fragrances, makeup and body care products, as well as a selection of Byproduct—which includes items like sunglasses, leather cases, and business/credit card holders.
Byredo is a sister company to diptyque, which opened a store in Palisades Village April 2021, replacing a former storefront occupied by Cynthia Rowley. Diptyque is a French luxury fragrance brand that produces eau de parfum, eau de toilette, scented candles and perfume oil diffusers.
Other changes coming soon to Palisades Village include the forthcoming openings of Aēsop, ROCA Pizza and Officine Générale.
Officine Générale, a French clothing brand, will open in the space previously occupied by See’s Candies, which closed in July, according to an updated map on the development’s website.
Aēsop, established in Melbourne in 1987, aims to “formulate products of the finest quality,” according to a description on the Palisades Village website, including skin, body and hair care, in addition to fragrance and “accessories for self and space.” Aēsop will open on Swarthmore, in the space next to Jennifer Meyer.
ROCA Pizza, “an elevated interpretation of Roman-style street-food pizza served ‘al taglio,’ which translates to ‘by the cut,’” will open in a space previously occupied by the now-closed SunLife Organics. The Palisades Village website reported that ROCA is “coming soon.”
