Ahead of the return of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Bruce Lurie Gallery in Pacific Palisades is teaming up with Butts in the Seats Productions to celebrate 21 years of the show and Palisadian Larry David with an independent fine art tribute and exhibit: “The Big Bald Art Show.”
The show is slated to feature original works from a global collection of artists representing the United States, Canada, England, Costa Rica, Australia, Argentina, Norway and beyond. It is scheduled to run from Thursday, October 21, through Sunday, October 31, at Bruce Lurie Gallery, located at 873 Via De La Paz.
Steve Matoren, producer and director from Butts in the Seats Productions, told the Palisadian-Post the show has been a work in progress since before the COVID-19 pandemic. He said The Big Bald Art Show initially began as an online tribute and gallery, but he began searching for a gallery partner knowing that “Curb Your Enthusiasm” was set to return to the silver screen sometime this fall.
He approached Bruce Lurie Gallery with the concept and said they were “in” almost immediately.
“When Steve first approached us to partner with him, we could not curb our enthusiasm,” Lurie said in a statement. “We’re big fans of the show, and look forward to celebrating this special milestone with our friends and community.”
Matoren added the Palisades couldn’t be any more perfect for the event.
“I hadn’t considered the Palisades until I visited the gallery and the immediate area, and knew it was the right place and vibe for the event,” Matoren said. “And since Larry [David] lives in the area, I wanted to make it as easy as possible for him to attend. Personally, I’m just a huge Larry David fan. For decades, ‘Seinfeld’ and ‘Curb’ have brought so much joy to my life, this is just my way of thanking and honoring the man that made it possible.”
Although the event flyer reported David is not expected to attend, he will undoubtedly be invited. A number of unconfirmed special guests and select cast members have also been invited to the show, and are expected to attend throughout its run.
“Rumor has it ‘Krazee-Eyez Killa’ might be in town [to] stop by [and] serve up some of his infamous homemade limoncello one night,” according to a press release.
Among the works are non-fungible tokens, themed baseball card sets, a new painting from The Producer BDB and more.
Matoren added that the Palisades holds a special place in his heart and is the backdrop for some of his first memories coming to Los Angeles.
“My memories of first coming to LA were visiting a cousin who lived in [a] neighborhood above the Getty Villa,” Matoren shared with the Post. “She turned out to be like a third grandmother to me, and while she passed away a few years ago, she would’ve been thrilled to know I was producing this show in her town. I’ll be thinking about her during the exhibit for sure.”
