On Saturday and Sunday, July 15 and 16, the Getty Villa presents “The Past on Tap: Feasts and Fermented Brews in Ancient Europe”—the latest in the “Bacchus Uncorked” series, exploring the noble art of fermentation.
Archeologist and anthropologist Bettina Arnold discusses evidence for power-drinking in pre-Roman Europe. Drinking and feasting equipment that was uncovered recently at ancient European burial sites suggest that people of the Iron Age raised a toast as part of funeral rites.
Saturday’s lecture takes place from 5-8 p.m. and Sunday is 4-7 p.m. in the auditorium, followed by brew tasting on the Café Terrace. Admission includes appetizers, parking and ancient brews.
