Bonnie Landry, 86, died on Friday, August 31, at the Berkley East Rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica.
Bonnie was born in Cordova, Alaska, in 1932 and grew up in Seattle, Washington, where she attained most of her formal education.
On October 3, 1953, Bonnie married Al Landry at St. Benedicts Church, in Seattle. After nine years, with Al and her four children, she first moved to Santa Monica, then to Pacific Palisades, where she lived since 1963.
Bonnie not only raised her children with loving care, but she also demonstrated great compassion for the various cats and dogs that were part of her household. Through her great faith she was a dedicated volunteer at Corpus Christi’s church and school. Being a secretary for the Parish Council and a leader in the Great Books program were two of her many positions over the years.
For employment she greeted customers with her genuine smile at Harrington’s Camera and Mckiernan’s Pharmacy.
In 1981, Bonnie accomplished an important goal in her life when she received a BFA in Art from Mount St. Mary’s College. Not only did she have a passion for art and its history, but she was a skilled and avid photographer.
Another interest of hers was traveling. She loved encountering various cultures in Mexico and Europe, especially Italy.
Bonnie is predeceased by her younger sisters, Donna Dickensheets and Pat Bennett; her parents Ken and Peggy Scherrer; and her infants Mark, John and Mary. She is survived by her husband Al Landry; her sons Joe Landry and Chris Landry; her daughters Lynn Lee and Dana Landry; her granddaughter Jennifer Sutton; and her sisters Karen Purpur and Kate Scherrer.
Bonnie’s funeral will take place at Corpus Christi Church, located at 880 Toyopa Drive in Pacific Palisades. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Homeboy Industries.
