The autumn season is heading towards an exciting climax at the Palisades Bocce Club and President Jimmy Dunne reports that games are “heating up” at Veterans Gardens.
“The Palisades Bocce League is cooking!” he says.
Palisades League games are Thursday nights from 4-6 and “Pompeii” and “We Like to Baci” are leading the early pack with 2-0 records, with Pompeii’s Dave Borgeson’s “5-Point Bay” burying “Rolling Aces” in an old-fashioned whooping. “Deboccery” won by default—so they had a strategic ‘chalk talk’ for their next match over lots of cocktails in town.
“Rolling Stones” put on quite a show against “Pali Paisonos,” with a 6-1, 6-0 spanking in only 22 minutes! George Junger was the Player of the Day with a dazzling “5-Point Bay” that delighted the crowd. Fan-favorite Mark Wadrep closed the performance with a show-stopper “4-Point Bay.”
“Bocce Ball Legend” team members strutted around in their stylish new blue uniforms and “liff Bocce” (so named because all of its families live on Iliff Street) showed lots of team spirit.
In the Senior’s League, which meets Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to noon, Dunne says things are really heating up! With nine teams only one win apart in the standings, it is going to be dramatic run to the finish line.
Big wins last Tuesday were earned by “Team Amici,” “I Sette,” “Palisades Rookies,” “Friends & Neighbors,” “The Vinos,” and “The Mob.” Senior’s Player of the Day honors went to “Palisades Rookies” captain Bruce Moor with a strong arsenal of deep-right rail shots.
More than 300 Palisadians are now actively involved in the Senior League (affectionately known as “The Bocce Brunch Bunch”) and the Palisades Bocce Club League. Dunne encourages everyone in the community to see what it is all about at the Palisades Recreation Center.
