“To start this whole revolution of adaptive surfing and then winning the world championship is a great feeling,” said Palisadian Jesse Billauer, a paraplegic who founded the non-profit organization Life Rolls On after a traumatic surfing accident. Billauer was crowned the world champion at the inaugural International Surfing Association World Adaptive Surfing Competition in September. “It’s great to be back in the game surfing, to feel that freedom and independence. To put on a jersey and be able to compete again is a beautiful feeling.”
