Palisades Charter High School English teacher Anita Stephens died after a fight with cancer.
Stephens, who has taught at PaliHi for over 10 years, kept her illness private and continued teaching, painting, working out and living life as normal as possible.
“Anita’s family very much appreciates being in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” PaliHi Principal Pam Magee wrote in an email. “Like all of us, they are trying to process the loss of a very special person.”
A memorial for Stephens is scheduled for Sunday, May 7 at Rancho del Cielo. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that anyone interested can make a donation to Palicares.
“It’s hard to imagine a world without Anita,” her family wrote, “but we like to think her passion for education will have effects that ripple out into the future.
“And that future is a better place because of her.”
Students, parents, faculty and staff who need additional support during this time are invited to reach out to PaliHi’s counselors, teachers or administration for concerns regarding the grief process.
