Barbara Bro passed away on March 8 at her home in Pacific Palisades. She was 79 years old.
She was born on May 18, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan to Lillian and Henry Bornemann. The family lived in Detroit until Barbara was about 10. They moved to Santa Monica, where Barbara attended Santa Monica High School and Santa Monica College.
Barbara and her parents moved to the Palisades when she was 20. After college, she worked at Boeing and in 1965 married Stephen Bro in a ceremony at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, officiated by Monsignor Richard Cotter.
On the night of their wedding, Barbara and her husband moved into the home that her parents purchased for them on Galloway, and where they resided for the remainder of their lives. Stephen passed away in March 2012.
Many merchants and residents in town knew and loved Barbara. She could often be seen walking around the Village, bejeweled and dressed beautifully with her glamorous red hair. Her flair for fashion was unmatched.
Barbara enjoyed life in Pacific Palisades and became very involved in Christian Science. Her deep faith and devotion to Christian Science made her the intensely positive woman that she was. She lived her faith daily and was passionate about the teachings of Christian Science. She loved to study and share her faith with others. Her spiritual identity and her relationship with God were some of the most important aspects of her life.
Second to her spirituality was her passion and love for animals. She rescued, cared for and nurtured countless cats though out her life, and was an active and contributing member of the Lange Foundation, an organization that rescues cats.
Barbara is survived by her beautiful, sweet, 20-year-old long-haired Siamese cat named Taska. She will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to know her and be a part of her life.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, April 21 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Buerge Chapel, 925 Haverford Ave. Beverages, a fruit plate, cookies and pastries will be served after the service, around 4 to 4:30 p.m., depending on how many people get up to talk and share their experiences and/or special moments they had with Barbara.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lange Foundation or any animal rescue/shelter of your choice. Donations can be made at: www.langefoundation.com
