The August episode of Palisades Podcast, presented by the Palisadian-Post and hosted by longtime community members Maryam Zar and Steve Cron, will feature Zócalo Public Square Executive Director Moira Shourie.
“Moira Shourie is the executive director of Zócalo Public Square, a public news source used in California as a unit of Arizona State University,” Zar shared ahead of the episode. “Moira has grown the reach and impact of Zócalo Public Square in Los Angeles and beyond by developing partnerships with noted institutions like The Smithsonian and the University of Toronto, and by collaborating with community-focused organizations like artworxLA and Inner City Arts.”
Shourie’s career in media began as part of the startup team responsible for launching Outlook in India, Zar continued.
“She rose to the highest ranks of media and entertainment,” according to Zar, “becoming the first music programmer of MTV India.”
Additional channel launches in Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa spanned her career with MTV Networks International.
“At a time when Americans are craving common ground,” Shourie said, “Zócalo Public Square seeks to build community by connecting people to ideas and to each other.”
Zar shared that Shourie is determined to take on the challenge of finding common ground at the helm of the organization, which aims to foster “positive dialogue about some of the generational issues we face.”
“A Palisadian and an avid golfer with a spot on the Riviera Ladies Golf Team, Moira is the proud mother of two sets of twins and a celebrated executive changing the way to see and consume news,” Zar concluded. “We are proud to have her as a guest on the Pali Podcast this month. Tune it to hear more.”
Palisades Podcast releases one episode per month, with past guests featuring locals like Cindy Simon, Palisades Recreation Center Senior Facility Director Jasmine Dowlatshahi and Honorary Mayor Eugene Levy.
