SOPHIA ARVIN
A junior on the Palisades High girls varsity tennis team, Sophia won the Girls 16 singles title at the 89th annual Santa Monica Junior Open, outlasting Sophia Ekstrand of Santa Monica, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, in the final at Riviera Country Club. She was down 3-1 in the final set but rallied to prevail. Seeded No. 1 in the USTA Level 5 event, Sophia defeated Eri Akiyama of Los Angeles, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, in the semifinals. She helped Pali High win its fifth straight City team title in November and practiced five to six days a week over the summer to prepare for the upcoming season.
