Arthur Burdorf, a pillar in our community, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2017. He was 81 years of age, born to Rhoda and Herman Burdorf in 1936.
From his birthplace in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York, he came to Los Angeles with his mother Rhoda when he was just a young boy.
There he grew up, went to school and met his sweetheart, Jacqueline (Stein). They married in 1962 and had recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
He graduated from Los Angeles High School (LA High) and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern California (USC). Additionally, he served and was honorably discharged from the United States Coast Guard.
A noted developer of residential real estate, he was a partner in Standard Investment Company in the 1970s and later went on to found Woodriver Properties located in Santa Monica.
He was a patron of the arts, a champion of the State of Israel, an advocate for numerous charitable pursuits and a mentor to a multitude. He had been a president of the local Boy Scout Council, appointed by the mayor of Los Angeles as a police and fire department pension commissioner, and served as a director on a number of boards.
Arthur found tremendous joy spending time with his family and was absolutely devoted to them. His love of travel took him all over the world.
He is survived by his wife Jacqueline, his daughter Suzanne, his daughter Debra, his son Barry, his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Sherry, and four grandchildren, Rachel, Mitchell, Carly and Henry.
His good nature and generosity will be missed.
