Palisades High football player Alec Simpson has been offered a full scholarship from the University of Nevada, an NCAA Division I school in the Mountain West Conference.
Simpson, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound linebacker, had 30 tackles (nine solo, 21 assisted) in seven games as a sophomore on varsity last year. The four-star recruit ran the 40-yard dash in 4.79 seconds at a UCLA camp in June and he has drawn interest from numerous other Division I programs, including Louisville, Illinois, California and BYU.
“When the coach told me I had tears of joy,” Simpson said. “It’s such a blessing to know you could be going to college for free on a full scholarship.”
Though excited about his future, Simpson is concentrating on the present and preparing for the season ahead — one he hopes will culminate in a Western League title and a return trip to the City Section Division I playoffs
“I know I have a lot more to prove and the only way to do that is with my teammates, to win games and show why Palisades deserves to be one of the top teams in the City,” Simpson said. “This team is going to do great things this year.”
