Palisadians got their first look inside the new Bay Theatre by Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas last week as the theater held a “soft-opening” for its five auditoriums.
As one of the biggest attractions at Caruso’s Palisades Village, troves of moviegoers are expected to line up for the grand opening on Friday, Nov. 9, and Saturday, Nov. 10.
The new theater will restore a local Palisadian cinema since the original Bay Theatre closed in 1978.
“It has been an honor restoring this beloved movie destination long missing from the area with our personal touch,” said Luis Olloqui, CEO of Cinépolis USA, in a press release. “We were inspired by the rich history of the building and sophisticated coastal aesthetic of Palisades Village to create a movie-going experience committed to celebrating its community.”
With five “intimate” auditoriums, one of them equipped to project 35 millimeter films, the spaces will be available for private rental.
“This is the first and only 35mm film projector at Cinépolis
USA theaters nationwide and was added to the theater at the suggestion of iconic, A-list movie directors and celebrities living in Pacific Palisades for hosting private screenings of their own films,” according to the press release.
Movies will screen seven days a week with ticket prices ranging from $23.50-$27 for adults and $20.50-$24.50 for children. Hours of operation are currently 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and are “subject to change” during the holidays.
Considered to be a “dine-in” theater, a full food and drink menu can be ordered from a seat.
An “opening” food menu that will have more options as they get settled in, already boasts an eclectic selection, including items exclusive to the new Bay Theatre
like the Ultimate Kobe Burger, a Shrimp and Cheese Brioche and a Cinnamon Cream Cheese Pretzel.
Movie patrons can order beers on tap, or a Texas Mule from the bar or from the farthest back reclining position inside the theater.
Currently employing 75 staff members, Cinepolis is still looking for more employees to work as line cooks, concessions, servers and bartenders.
Films being screened on opening weekend will be “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “A Star is Born,” “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” and “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.”
With anticipation at its highest, many of the initial showtimes were already sold out as of Tuesday afternoon.
