On Aug. 17 I went to my first Dodgers game. My dad and I drove to the stadium where I wished to catch a foul ball and hoped that the Dodgers would win.
As we parked I saw a kid was wearing a Cardinals shirt and they weren’t even playing. The game was Dodgers versus the Milwaukee Brewers. I picked up my free Dodgers lunchbox and a certificate for it being my first Dodgers game.
As I entered the stadium I was amazed how big and green the field was. We found our seats in the sunny section. Milwaukee scored five runs in the first two innings and I was feeling the Dodger blues. I was ready for lunch.
My Dodger dog was tasty with mustard, but I enjoyed the Cool-A-Coo even more. It is a vanilla ice cream sandwich between two graham crackers with chocolate on top.
The temperature rose into the 90s and we were melting. My dad dipped a LA Kings towel in a thermos of ice water and I wore it around my neck to keep cool.
In the seventh inning we sang “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” It seemed to help the Dodgers because they scored two runs in the eighth inning. The final score was 7-2.
I did not catch a foul ball, the day was hot and the Dodgers lost, but I will always remember my first Dodgers game.
