Will Rogers Polo Club players are introduced before the start of Saturday’s Celebrity Cup.
Will Rogers Polo Club players are presented with prizes after playing Celebrity Ranch.
Visitors to Will Rogers State Historic Park may have noticed a lot of “horsing around” Saturday at the Celebrity Cup Polo Tournament.
Numerous celebrities, including actors Lou Gossett Jr., Joe Cortese, Patrick Kilpatrick, Timothy Bottoms and Ken Davitian and NBA basketball players Jarron and Jason Collins, showed up for the annual fundraiser hosted by Celebrity Ranch Polo Club in Temecula Valley. Guests were treated to three exciting polo matches, a gourmet lunch, wine, champagne, divot stomping music and the familiar voice of Will Rogers’ play-by-play announcer, Alan Epstein.
The event began at noon with a match between Will Rogers and Celebrity Ranch. The Will Rogers team consisted of Sean Goel, Graydon Brittain, Mike Jordan and Manny Questel, who scored every one of Will Rogers’ goals in a 6-4 defeat.
The second game featured Manny Questel’s sister, Gabby, playing for the Hollywood Girls team against an all-male team from Beverly Hills Polo Club. One of Gabby’s teammates was Kerstie Allen, who was named Most Valuable Player of the La Martina Miami Beach Polo World Cup in April after scoring all seven goals for FontaineBleau Aviation. Allen grew up in Australia and is one of only a few women ever to play high goal polo.
Seven-goal player Domingo Questel refereed Saturday’s third and final match, a five-chukker between two teams of Will Rogers regulars. The contest was tied 4-4 after three chukkers, but Team Santa Monica scored four unanswered goals in the fourth and went on to beat Team Palisades, 9-4.
Proceeds from the tournament went to the Celebrity Foundation for Children.
