Longtime Palisadian Betty Schaffer, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on June 23 at the age of 84.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 12, 1928, Betty studied at Lincoln High School, Julliard School of Music, and Brooklyn College. She married Marv Schaffer in 1948 and they lived in Jackson Heights, Queens and Paramus, New Jersey, before moving to California in 1961. They were residents of Rustic Canyon since 1963.
Betty was an accomplished actress, pianist, teacher and all-around friend to her many hundreds of students and neighbors, as well as to her family. She was also a world traveler, visiting over 100 countries.
Betty is survived by her husband of 64 years, Marv; daughters Jody Jacobs, Leslie Belay and Merri Nelson; and five grandchildren: Chandra, Kassa, B’rouk, Micah and Dane.
A memorial service will be held today at 4 p.m. at Kehillat Israel, 16919 Sunset Blvd. Please utilize the parking lot off Muskingum.
