At eight years old, young Palisadian Elisabeth Anisimova has already made an international name for herself among artists. Aside from her love of animals and PE class at Corpus Christi, the second grader has an undeniable talent for drawing and painting images well beyond her years, comparable to the work of established artists.
The youngest member of the Pacific Palisades Art Association, Elisabeth is having a personal art show at the Palisades Branch Library through Dec. 26. Her displayed works range from an early childhood painting of a cat (age 2) to her more recent landscape paintings of scenes from the California coastline to whimsical Russian cathedrals.
While spending the summer with her grandmother in St. Petersburg, Elisabeth studied at The Russian Academy of Arts, where she was accepted only after being tested on her knowledge and skill.
She has works on display at the International Museum of Children’s Art in Oslo, Norway and a painting she did of her family is a current finalist (among 98,000 entries) in an international contest hosted in Japan.
In the spring, Elisabeth hopes to travel to Paris where she said she is looking forward to seeing the Mona Lisa, which hangs in the Louvre.
“The Mona Lisa is my favorite painting. It can just tell it is beautiful, even from looking at pictures of it,” she said.
The da Vinci enthusiast said she is also inspired by the works of Michelangelo and Pablo Picasso. Elisabeth said she related to Picasso in her earlier years because her drawings of “sloppy shapes” resembled his style.
“I want to be a painter when I grow up because painting is wonderful,” she said.
