The Marissa Williams show aired in prime time last Thursday night in Los Angeles.
Perhaps foreshadowing what she’ll attempt at next week’s City Section Track & Field Championships, the Palisades High junior entered and won all three distance races in the Western League finals meet at Fairfax.
“No one’s ever tripled at City, but I think Marissa is strong enough to do it,” PaliHi Coach Bob Macias predicted. “We’ll see how she feels next week, but she’s training great.”
Williams won the 800 meters in 2:21.13, the 1,600 in 4:59.08 and the 3,200 in 11:15.16. Teammates Nicole Figueroa and Mackenzie Gray were second and third in the 800 and Hannah De Silva and Figueroa ran second and third in the 1,600. Natalie Marsh was third in the 3,200, Kendal Lake won the 300 hurdles (47.12) and Alex Olsen cleared 10-6 in the pole vault.
The Dolphins won the girls 4×100 and 4×400 relays, Jacqui Vogel won the long jump with a leap of 16-2 followed by Tessa DeNicola and Hayley Hutt and Hutt won the triple jump with a distance of 31-8. Doshawn Franks was runner-up in the 400 meters and high jump.
On the boys’ side, Menelik Dagnachew nearly equaled Williams’ feat, using a late surge to win the 800 by six hundredths of a second in 1:59.37 and taking the mile in 4:26.69 before finishing second in the 3,200 in 9:48.19.
Chase Cobb won the 200 in 22.67 and took second in the 100 (11.08) and Emerson Simpson won the high jump in 6-0 and was second in the long jump (20-3).
