After running a personal-best in her first race of the season, Palisades High senior cross country star Marissa Williams will try to set another record Saturday night in Irvine when she competes in the Sweepstakes Race at the 34th annual Woodbridge Classic.
Williams, the two-time City Section champion, clocked 5:59.98 in the senior division race at the Seaside Invitational two weeks ago — one second off the time Great Oak’s Destiny Collins recorded in the junior division — and the two could race head-to-head at Orange County Great Park in a field that will include many of the top distance runners in Southern California.
“It’s another fast, flat course and Marissa ran her previous PR (16:20) there last year, so I’m looking forward to it,” Pali High Coach Bob Macias said.
The boys’ and girls’ freshman, sophomore, junior and senior division races will precede the rated and Sweepstakes races.
