Palisadians Zak Raskin, Sammy Duffin, Evan Epstein and Charley Wadler led the Team Los Angeles-Westside 14U basketball team to a bronze medal last weekend at the JCC Maccabi Games in Boca Raton, Fla.
Twenty-year Maccabi Games veteran and longtime Palisadian Rich Miller coached the 14U squad, which went 6-1 and lost to Chicago on a buzzer-beater in the semifinals before rebounding to defeat Dallas for third place. The 14U squad was vying for a second straight title.
Benny Duffin, Sammy’s older brother, played on Team Los Angeles-Westside’s 16U basketball squad, which went 5-2 before beating Orlando, Florida for the bronze medal.
Another Palisadian participating at the Maccabi Games was Ethan Subel. He played on Los Angeles-Westside’s 14U soccer team, which took fourth place.
The week-long event included delegations from almost every state in the USA as well as countries like Mexico, Israel, Canada and Canada. Over 6,000 Jewish teens ages 13 to 16 participate in the Games each summer.
