Conditions were ideal for the Palisades High track and field team’s season-opening meet last Friday at Stadium by the Sea and the Dolphins showed signs that they will again be strong contenders for the City Section title.

Sophomore Aaron Cromwelll ran the varsity 100 meters in 11.14 seconds and the 200 meters in 23.49 seconds and Makhai Husband ran the 400 in 52.78 seconds.
Jared Rothenberg won the boys varsity 300 hurdles in 50.12 seconds and the Dolphins swept the boys varsity 400 and 1,600 relays.
Junior Tessa De Nicola won the girls varsity 200 meters in 27.37 seconds, Dowshawn Franks won the 400 meters in 1:01.59 and Jillian Wong won the girls varsity 300 hurdles in 1:17.25.

Softball
The Dolphins opened the season March 3 with a 4-3 victory over Culver City, taking a 3-0 lead to the sixth inning before rallying for the decisive run in the bottom of the frame.
Daisy Jones, Lily Lack, Paulette Ely, Stephanie Boorstin, Jaylene Navarro and Keren Cohen all had hits and Jones, Ely, Navarro and Sabina Foreman-Palmer scored the runs for the Dolphins, who tied Hamilton for second place in the Western League last season behind Venice.
“We’ve got a lot of players back and four freshmen travel ball players,” Coach Manny Flores said. “I expect us to challenge for the league title.”
The ninth-graders are pitchers Ely and Reina Strauss, shortstop Charlie Weiner and third baseman Navarro.
The Dolphins (1-0) travel to Chavez High on Saturday to play in the Lincoln Tournament. PaliHi opens against Vaughn of San Fernando at 12:30 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. game against Pacific of San Bernardino. The Dolphins open league April 2 against Westchester.
