Palisades High girls golf coach James Paleno knows his first-year program is a work in progress and significant progress was made Tuesday at Penmar. After finishing third in their first two City 3 League matches the Golfin Dolphins shaved 54 strokes off last week’s nine-hole total, taking second place with a score of 266, one shot ahead of Venice and two behind LACES.
Izzy Simmons carded a 51, Heidi Kang had a 52, Sophia Eberlein and Maury Marin each had a 53, Camila Paleno had a 56 and Pauline Shumilov fired a 71.
“Despite the scores our girls are working hard to improve,” Coach Paleno said. “We’re a team of beginners whose first time on a golf course of any kind was our first match at Penmar. The scores range from +13 to +40, so we’re not really that far off.”
