More than 300 students, parents, teachers, principals and coaches – some decked out in Halloween costumes – ran for education on Saturday, Oct. 25 as part of the first-ever Run Pali Run 2K/5K.
The Palisades Charter High School Education Foundation sponsored the community event to celebrate all of the charter schools in the Palisades Complex: Marquez, Palisades, Canyon, Kenter and Topanga Charter Elementary Schools, Paul Revere Charter Middle School and Palisades Charter High School.
According to organizer Hema Anwar, 100 percent of the proceeds from the event will benefit Palisades Charter Complex schools.
“It’s the first Palisades Complex event in years, and it’s a great opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate fitness and education,” said Pali High principal Pam Magee, who was walki
ng the race route, which started at Pali High, went up and down scenic Temescal Canyon Road, then into the Village before finishing back at Pali High.
As participants gathered in anticipation of the 8 a.m. start time, Eliza Smith, a fifth grade teacher at Marquez Elementary, said she was excited to see some of her students.
Adding some Halloween spirit to the festive atmosphere was the Raddon Family – dad Rich, mom Katie, Nicholas (5th grader at Marquez), Clara (3rd grader at Marquez) and Ezra, 3 – who came dressed in ghoulish costumes.
“We thought it would be some family fun to dress up and support our schools,” Katie Raddon said.
Honorary Mayor Jake Steinfeld helped get the race underway and said, “This event shows how fitness and academics go hand in hand, but the best thing here is community. I travel all around the world, and I can tell you that the Palisades is the best place on earth.”
