The 2014 All-Western League football team has been selected and Palisades High quarterback P.J. Hurst, who threw for 2,220 yards and 23 touchdowns, was chosen Offensive co-MVP.
Making the first team offense were receiver Herbert Acosta (40 catches for 773 yards), running back Desmond Box (1,123 yards, 14 touchdowns) and tackle Marvin Williams. Second team selections were tackle J.P. Flaherty and tight end James Mann (22 receptions).
Kicker Ethan Erickson made the first team after making 46 of 48 extra-points and six of 10 field goals.
Making the first team defense were safety Dhaamir Lomax (two interceptions, 57 tackles) and linebacker Alec Simpson (115 tackles, four sacks, one interception). Second teamers were end E.B. Odeh (49 tackles, six sacks), tackle Kenny Jones (67 tackles, three sacks) and linebacker Mario Lofton (91 tackles). Aaron Butler earned honorable mention.
The football program’s postseason banquet was Saturday at Mercer Hall. Varsity honors went to Mann (Focus Award), Simpson (Compete Award), Acosta, Butler and Lofton (Coaches Awards), Odeh (Lineman of the Year), Lomax (Defensive Player of the Year), Flaherty and Williams (Offensive Players of the Year), Box (Back of the Year) and Hurst (Team MVP). JV honors went to Innocent Okoh (Offensive MVP), Luis Orozco (Defensive MVP), Gage Stauff (Lineman of the Year), Noah Karp (Rookie of the Year) and Kaelynn Lamothe (Team MVP).
