Three weeks ago, the Palisades High boys varsity water polo team co-hosted the Westside Classic with Brentwood. However, the teams never got to play each other. The Dolphins ended up winning the title while Brentwood settled for fourth.
Monday’s game at Brentwood presented Palisades an opportunity to venture outside of the City Section and tune up before heading south for this weekend’s South Bay Invitational at Redondo and Mira Costa.
Lucas Silva scored three of the Dolphins’ four goals in the first quarter and finished with four as Palisades outscored the host Eagles 11-7. The Dolphins led 7-2 at halftime.
Zach Senator had three goals and three assists, Kian Lotfi had two goals and two steals and Quinn Godfredsen and Sammy Speiser each added a goal.
Palisadian Harrison Cates scored the fifth goal for the Eagles, whose lineup also featured local resident Ryan Bub.
One player especially motivated to perform well was goalie Blake Levine, who played at Brentwood last season but transferred to Palisades. He had three saves in his two quarters of play, including one on a five-meter shot.
“It was really exciting for Blake,” Senator said. “I know a lot of their players and with several of them are good friends, so it was fun playing them. Also, it’s good preparation for the tournament coming up because we’re going to see teams much better than the ones we’ve been playing in league.”
The South Bay Invitational is tomorrow and Saturday and features many of the top teams in Southern California.
