Melinda McIntyre-Kolpin, a lifelong resident of Pacific Palisades, passed away peacefully on June 13. She was 57 years old.
Born on April 27, 1956, Melinda attended Marquez Elementary, Paul Revere Junior High, and graduated from Palisades High in 1974.
After earning her B.S. degree in business administration from the University of Southern California, with an emphasis on accounting and marketing, she embarked upon an impressive career in the finance industry, beginning at Union Bank in Los Angeles.
A multitalented, highly-skilled and entrepreneurial professional, Melinda advanced rapidly to positions of increasing responsibility, which included serving as Commercial Banking Officer at Bank of California and ultimately being named president and CEO at First Professional Bank in Santa Monica. At this juncture, in 1986, Melinda began to home in on healthcare financing. During her 16 years with the firm, she financed transactions in virtually all areas of the outpatient services market.
Most recently, as founder, president and CEO of Network Health Financial Services (NHFS), Melinda utilized her expertise to assist the healthcare industry in aligning business and project strategies with the appropriate capital resources and cash-management products needed.
Widely respected for her knowledge and leadership in her field, Melinda was a contributing writer for such publications as “Medical Economics,” and was often invited to roundtable discussions and to address medical groups and leadership conferences locally and nationwide.
Melinda was also an adjunct professor at USC for the Masters in Health Administration Program, and received countless honors and awards in recognition of her contributions and commitment to the healthcare industry. She was listed by California Medicine as “One of the 100 Most Influential and Interesting Health Care Leaders in California,” named “Distinguished Woman of the Year” by the L.A/ Chapter of Boy Scouts of America, and was Horizon Award Honoree for the Senior Care Action Network (SCAN).
She held board positions and directorships for countless organizations, including Project Angel Food, the National Health Foundation, the American Heart Association and Community Bankers of Southern California.
Melinda’s husband of 30 years, Dr. Chris Kolpin, was also her best friend. She was a devoted and loving mother to daughter Kathryn, who often joined her in volunteering with the National Charity League and spending time with family and friends at the Bel-Air Bay Club. An avid reader with a passion for collectible monkeys, Melinda’s other hobbies included waterskiing, scuba diving and travel.
Loving, loyal and always sincere, Melinda also had a sense of humor and contagious laugh that will be missed, but never forgotten, by her family and all who had the privilege and joy of knowing her.
Predeceased by her beloved brother James (“Jimmy”) McIntyre, Melinda is survived by her husband, Chris; daughter Kathryn; mother Gail Randazzo; father Jim McIntyre Sr; stepmother Amanda McIntyre; brother William (“Billy”) McIntyre and wife Jennifer; two sisters, Tracy McIntyre-Fredricks (husband Jon) and Tina Kerner-Gough (husband Mark); and 18 nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass celebrating Melinda’s life will be held at Corpus Christi Church on Friday, July 5 at 3 p.m. A reception immediately follows at the Upper Bel-Air Bay Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Melinda’s memory to The Molina Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lives through literacy and education.
