SMPD polices PCH between the McClure Tunnel and Entrada, which includes the areas currently affected by construction and lane closures.
SMPD Officer Olson, speaking at the quarterly PCH Taskforce meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 18, said there have been 15 collisions on that stretch of PCH since Oct. 22, 2014.
Most of those accidents were due to high speed or illegal turns.
Five of the collisions were hit-and-runs and four of the accidents involved injuries.
From Coastline to the Malibu city limits, PCH has been the scene of 10 collisions from Oct. 1, 2014 to Jan. 31, 2015 compared to nine collisions for the same period in 2013-2014, according to CHP.
Speeding and unsafe turns are the top factors in those accidents as well, said CHP Officer Leland at the Taskforce meeting.
An officer for LAPD, which handles PCH in the Palisades up to Topanga Canyon Blvd., said collisions in their area are down from 23 accidents for the same quarter last year to 15 this quarter.
