Jon Moscot received quite a belated birthday present on Sunday when the Cincinnati Reds promoted him to their Triple-A affiliate, the Louisville Bats, moving him one step closer to living every baseball player’s dream – a chance in the Major Leagues.
Moscot had spent the entire 2014 season in Double-A Pensacola with the Blue Wahoos, where he posted a 3.13 earned run average with 111 strikeouts in 149.1 innings. The just-turned 23-year-old was picked by Cincinnati in the fourth round (142nd overall) of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft after throwing a team-best 95 strikeouts his junior year at Pepperdine University.
Moscot won the Palisadian-Post Cup Award as the outstanding senior athlete at Palisades High in 2009. The Dolphins won 48 of 49 Western League games in Moscot’s three seasons on varsity. He was a two-time league Most Valuable Player and earned All-City honors as a junior and senior. He also excelled at the club level, playing for the SoCal Black Sox (2005-07), Victory (2008-09) and Dodgers Elite (2009).
Jon’s younger brother Jed is starting his senior year at Pali High, where he plays third base and pitcher. Jed helped the Dolphins to the City Section Division I semifinals in the spring.
