Palisades High cross country star Marissa Williams will make her senior debut today when she and the Dolphins travel to Ventura for the Seaside XC Invitational.
Williams is a two-time City Section champion and clocked 16:40 to break the Seaside girls junior race record last fall. She broke the sophomore record at Seaside two years ago, so will she break the senior race record? Pali High Coach Bob Macias thinks she can.
“She looks terrific so absolutely she can do it,” Macias said. “There will be some strong schools there with elite runners, but it’s a flat and fast course so I’m expecting the times to reflect that.”
The girls’ freshman race is at 2 p.m., followed by the girls’ sophomore race at 2:30, the girls’ junior race at 3 and the girls’ senior race at 3:30 p.m. on the three-mile course at the Ventura Pier. Boys races are from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Senior Shane Brouwer will pace the Pali High boys.
“My goal is 15:10,” said Brouwer, who clocked 15:56 in the junior race last season.
