Palisades High freshman Jake Sands won the 14-and-under mixed doubles division of the 30th annual San Diego Junior Doubles Closed Tournament last Sunday with partner Lindsay Hung of San Clemente.
The pair dropped only one set in five matches and knocked off the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 seeds en route to the championship. After beating the No. 2 duo in the quarterfinals and the No. 4 duo in the semifinals, Sands and Hung upset third-seeded Britt Pursell and Peter Stratton, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 in the final.
In the Boys 18s doubles division, Palisadian Jackson Kogan made the finals with partner Jonathan Star and in the Boys 12s, Palisadian Lincoln Bellamy reached the semifinals with Derek Wong.
Jakes’s brother RJ Sands made the finals of the 16s division at the Lakewood Summer Open.
