Growing up, it was always Dec. 10th that Scott Gibson and his family would set up their Christmas tree each year, draping it in bubble lights, foil tinsel and whirly birds. Gibson said decorating was his favorite way to get ready for the holidays.
Now, with a tree of his own at his home in Pacific Palisades, the owner of Gibson International Realty still looks forward to kicking off the holiday season.
“It starts with Thanksgiving and continues through the New Year; something feels different, people are friendlier – it’s a great time of year,” he said.
In hopes of amping up the holiday spirit all through the Palisades, Gibson is sponsoring the Post’s first annual Deck Your Halls home decorating contest.
“As a kid, I remember driving around to see all of the decorations and holiday lights our neighbors had put up. I loved it,” he said. “I’m hopeful this contest will reignite the interest of Palisadians. I hope as the word gets out, this will start to become a favorite family tradition.”
Gibson, who lives with his wife Suzy in the Highlands, said he would love to see more homes decorated for the holidays and hopes the Deck Your Halls contest will inspire his neighbors to join in the festive fun.
While Gibson admits his wife is the one with the decorative flair in their family, he’s happy to help by selecting the perfect seasonal music to decorate to and making sure the tree doesn’t have any gaps.
As for decorators hoping to win the prize at this year’s contest, he has this advice:
“Keep it simple – don’t blow a fuse – but have fun, be creative and enjoy it,” Gibson said.
