Students and families from charter schools in the Palisades Complex, including Marquez Elementary School, Palisades Elementary School, Paul Revere Middle School and Palisades High School, will gather on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 25 for a Halloween-themed family race at Stadium by the Sea.
The first-ever Halloween Run Pali Run 2K/5K will start at 8 a.m.
“The impetus behind the run is to really bring all the schools in the charter complex together in a single event,” said Hema Anwar, co-chair of Palisades Charter High School Education Foundation and an organizer of the event. “It’s never been done before.”
Sara Margiotta, Education Foundation co-chair and event organizer along with Anwar, is excited to reveal that Pacific Palisades Honorary Mayor Jake Steinfeld will be at the start of the race to get everybody excited.
“These schools get kids from all over LA,” Anwar said of charter schools in the Palisades Complex, adding that a third of the students at Pali High are low-income. “That school is essentially a microcosm of the whole city.”
Anwar said it is important to celebrate these schools, as they are often overlooked because of their affluent location.
The entire community is invited to participate in the event, which will serve as a fundraiser for area charter schools. Registration fees will go to benefit Pali High, and individual runners can be sponsored to raise money for their schools. Donations can also be made to schools online.
The event will celebrate an active lifestyle and, of course, Halloween. Participants can walk or run from Pali High to the Village, then turn around in front of Pali Elementary and loop back.
“Costumes are definitely encouraged and we’re going to have prizes for the best costumes,” Anwar said, though costumes are optional.
