Los Angeles Clippers forward and Riviera resident Blake Griffin has been voted a starter for the Western Conference in the NBA All-Star Game on Feb. 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
As of Tuesday, Griffin was averaging 22.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and a career-high 5.1 assists per game this season for the Clippers (31-14), who are currently in second place in the Pacific Division. Griffin scored 38 points last year in the East’s 163-155 victory.
Griffin was voted a West starter along with Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, Golden State guard Stephen Curry, New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis and Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol.
Coaching the West squad will be Palisades High alumnus Steve Kerr, who is off to the best start by a first-year head coach in NBA history, guiding Golden State to a league-leading 36-6 mark through Monday.
Kerr is the Warriors’ first All-Star head coach since Don Nelson in 1992 and the first coach to coach the All-Star game in his first season since Indiana’s Larry Bird in 1998.
