When Palisades High junior water polo player and swimmer Zach Senator lost his 8-year-old brother Jackson to pediatric brain cancer in 2008 he wanted to do something to make a difference in his honor.
In 2010, Senator decided to make “Dribble for the Cure” (an annual event supporting the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation) his Bar Mitzvah project at Kehillat Israel.
“I wanted to do something that helped cure pediatric cancer, I found this event that’s held each year and I thought it would be great because I love basketball and it was Jackson’s favorite sport,” Senator said. “I want to keep doing it for as long as I can.”
He formed Team Jackson, a group comprised of friends and family from the Palisades, and over the last three years Senator has raised about $60,000 for PCRF.
The seventh annual “Dribble for the Cure” will take place next Sunday, Oct. 26, at UCLA’s Drake Stadium and Pauley Pavilion, where awards will be given to the top individual fundraisers.
Last year’s event drew more than 525 participants with record net revenue, including corporate sponsorships, of $167,000.
