After suffering a concussion in the third NFL preaseason game Chicago free safety Chris Conte was cleared to play in the Bears’ season opener and he led the team with seven tackles (five solo), an interception and a pass deflection in Sunday’s 23-20 overtime loss to Buffalo.
Conte grew up in the Palisades, was a two-way star at Loyola High and went on to play at California.
Fellow Palisadian Kai Forbath, the placekicker for the Washington Redskins, had his only extra point attempt blocked in Sunday’s 17-6 loss to Houston. Forbath was an All-CIF kicker at Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks and won the Groza Award as the nation’s top kicker his junior year at UCLA.
Palisades High alumnus Mitchell Schwartz played all game at right tackle for the Cleveland Browns in Sunday’s loss to Pittsburgh.
