The outdoor courts were a sea of humanity last Saturday at Dockweiler State Beach, where Palisades High‘s boys beach volleyball team was in action against Mira Costa and Palos Verdes. After leading the girls squad to the playoffs in the spring, Dolphins head coach Dane Selznick has high hopes for the boys, several of whom also play on the school’s indoor team.
In the third week of the season Palisades had to take on two of the league’s strongest South Bay squads. The duo of Jason Wittbrodt and Danny Miller played tough at the No. 1 position. The duos of Sam Sherman and Bradley McCallister and Billy Bailey teamed with Brendan Ward rotated between No. 2 and No. 3. Rounding out the varsity are Matthew Mitchel, Shane Stoklos and Hunter Price.
Palisades is the only City Section school in the 23-team varsity league. The Dolphins are 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the Bay Division, which also includes Mira Costa, Palos Verdes, Redondo Union and Windward. The Dolphins’ JV squad consists of Felix Massey, Jeff Stuart, Kai Padden, Riley Byington, Scott Stuart and Jim Taylor and plays in the North Division with Westlake, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and Camarillo. On Saturday, Pali High’s varsity plays Redondo Union at 10 a.m. and Windward at 11 a.m. while the JV takes on Westlake at 10 a.m. and Camarillo at noon, also at Dockweiler.
