Although it won’t count on the record, last Tuesday’s three-way scrimmage against Saugus and Burbank Burroughs was valuable experience for the Palisades High girls varsity volleyball team.
Official scores weren’t kept, but Dolphins head coach Carlos Gray got a chance to tinker with his lineup and see where certain players fit best in game situations. One major change he has made this season is moving junior Isabel Kelly from middle blocker to outside hitter, a move intended to get her more swings.
“Isabel played well outside and Angel Echipue, the sophomore I brought up from JV played well in the middle,” Gray said. “I’m still breaking down tape, but Olivia Zelon looked good at libero.”
Palisades hosts Woodland Hills Taft in its season opener tonight at 6 and Gray believes the Toreadors could be the best team in the City Section — even better than they were last year when they won the Division II title.
“No more practice matches for us, we’re jumping straight into the fire,” Gray said. “I’m anxious to see how we do.”
